Still dark

The weather has held and it has been a few degrees above zero and a little grey and dull and short days. On thursday it rained and I was quite wet when I came home. And of course I go to work in darkness and go home in darkness.

Friday morning I started my long journey towards home and night. I called the train operator to find out if the trains between Borås and Varberg were running and they were. The railway bank was damaged by the storm Helga and had to be repaired. The local paper had a picture of it here. Well,  it was repaired and I went by train and bus to Landskrona where I had a meeting during the afternoon.  As I was early for my meeting I took a walk in pouring rain in Landskrona that used to be a military town and has a medieval castle very similar to Malmöhus castle. The rained stopped and the sun came through just in time for my meeting. That done I took the train again this time for Hyllie station in Malmö. Unfortunately there were people on the rails so the train was stopped at Lund so I decided to take the bus to Malmö.

One day’s rest and back to Borås on the train bound for Varberg. Unfortunately we where delayed by people walking on the rails again so I missed my train in Varberg and had to go by Gothenburg again, and then a bus for Borås.  This was also my first trip through the railway tunnel through the ridge Hallandsås that has taken 23 Years to build.

As I had other things to do I missed the Lucia at my work on Friday morning. As the 13th of december is a sunday workplaces, schools and daycare institutions had their Lucia on Friday but I looked at the Lucia morning on swedish television from Örgryte Church this morning and it was very impressive with the Lucia with her light crown, her terns and the star boys. The program is one hour long and can be found here and can be seen all over the world for 30 days. If you think it is too long you can look at the beginning when the lucia train march into the church with living candles and singing the Lucia song and get an impression of this swedish tradition.

In later years not only children or young people walk Lucia. I found several favourites in the media where people living at homes for the elderly take the decision to walk Lucia and these elderly Lucia trains are very endearing. I also found a clip on swedish television where people learning swedish had a lucia train for their school with people from ten countries in the train. This gives hope in the darkness that has been the hallmark of this autumn. Listening to the songs in the lucia consert about the coming light and the need for comfort in the whole world maybe there is yet hope.

Saturday and Sunday offered sun during the day in Malmö.
